A member of our team reviews every application and gets back to you personally — no automated rejections, no long waits.

3. Brief Onboarding Call

We match you to the right role and walk you through our work, expectations, and how we’ll support you throughout your time with us.

4. Start Making a Difference

You’re placed in your role with a clear scope, a point of contact, and the support of the whole SCF team behind you.

What to Expect

A Supportive, Human Experience

We know volunteering works best when volunteers feel valued, not lost. Every SCF volunteer gets a dedicated point of contact, a clear role brief, and regular check-ins to make sure you’re getting as much out of the experience as the communities you serve.

We also provide a volunteer reference letter upon completion of your engagement — something you can use to demonstrate real-world impact experience to future employers, academic institutions, or grant bodies.

Common Questions

Volunteer FAQs

Everything you need to know before applying. Still have questions? Just send us a message.

Do I need to be based in Ghana to volunteer?

Not at all. Many of our most active volunteers contribute remotely from the UK, USA, Europe, and other parts of Ghana. Remote volunteering is a core part of how SCF operates. If you want to come on-site to Tamale, we welcome that too — we’ll discuss arrangements with you during onboarding.

How many hours per week do I need to commit?

We’re flexible. Some volunteers contribute just 2–3 hours a week on specific tasks; others take on more substantial project-based work. We’ll agree on a scope that works for your schedule during the onboarding call. There’s no pressure to overcommit — sustainable volunteering is better for everyone.

Is volunteering with SCF paid?

Volunteering with SCF is unpaid. However, all volunteers receive a formal reference letter upon completion of their engagement, outlining the work done and its impact. For on-site volunteers, we will discuss logistics support on a case-by-case basis. We’re transparent about what we can and cannot offer.

What if I’m a student or recent graduate?

We actively welcome students and recent graduates. Volunteering with SCF is an excellent way to gain hands-on development sector experience, build your portfolio, and make a genuine contribution. We’ll tailor your role to your current skill level and learning goals where possible.

What happens after I submit my application?

Within 48 hours, a member of our team will email you personally to discuss your application. We’ll arrange a brief introductory call to get to know each other, confirm your role, and handle a simple onboarding process. From there, you’ll be ready to start making a real difference.
